International Berlin Seminar 2019 ‘Our Democracy in the Digital Age’

Applications are open now!

For four days, you and more than 50 inspiring young people from all over Europe will get the chance to explore Berlin, discuss and try to find answers to questions regarding digitalisation and its effects on politics, society and economy. Together we want to develop our own vision of Europe and – more importantly – a way to shape the Europe of tomorrow: federal, inclusive and digital.

The term of digitalisation is ubiquitous. In politics, economy or in everyday life – we are facing a development which is dynamic, fast and disruptive. The digital transformation offers a vast number of chances but entails also challenges that need to be addressed by players from every societal spectrum. During the IBS we will focus on basic terms and concepts of digitalisation, and particularly discuss the following aspects:

  • A fresh start: What are the chances of digital transformation? How can the digital and technological transformation be useful for a young civil society, such as the Young European Federalists?
  • Freedom at stake: How do desinformation, data theft, cyber crime affect our democracy and liberal society?

Besides all, Berlin is not only a nexus of major economic and political institutions and civil society, but also a symbol for a liberal way of life. Next to its vibrant atmosphere, Berlin is still a Mekka for individuals, who are considered deviant and different elsewhere. The city has profited from this by becoming a great place in terms of arts, music and culture, attracting tourists from all over the globe. The IBS is your opportunity to discover this wonderful city!

Are you ready for this years IBS? Experts on European politics, new methods and games and lots of food for thought are waiting for you!
